DID YOU KNOW……….
Did you know that the City spent over 12 years in courts fighting airlines that challenged our noise ordinance and we lost ground in every battle?
Did you know that as a result of court orders and settlements of lawsuits the minimum number of commercial flights allowed has increased from 15 to a minimum of 66 (41 commercial-25 commuter) per day?
Did you know that adding more facilities like an International Customs Terminal will not strengthen our noise ordinance? Adding more facilities may, in fact, increase the interests of other airlines to challenge our policies and ordinance.
Did you know an average of only 30 of the allowed 66 flights leave our airport each and every day? There is no market for the other 36 slots.
Did you know you currently experience the noise from a maximum of 3 flights per hour a maximum of 4 times per day?
And did you know that using only ONE of our two runways you could have approximately 25 commercial flights PER HOUR (over 250 per day) flying over your house if our noise ordinance was modified or eliminated? (faa.gov/airports/planning capacity – Daugherty Field 2014)
Did you know that there are 13 Long Beach public schools under the flight path of commercial airplanes taking off and landing?
Did you know that neighborhoods in five out the nine City Council Districts are impacted by airport noise, traffic and pollution?
Did you know that according to the most recent feedback from a local economist, the incremental income that the International Customs Terminal might generate is a paltry sum and insignificant?
Did you know that the revenue generated at the Airport can not be used for General Fund expenses like police, fire, streets or park maintenance? Airport revenues must only be used for airport purposes within airport boundaries.
Did you know Long Beach Airport is open 24 hours a day, every day?
Did you know that GA (general aviation) flights are NOT slot controlled nor restricted on flight times?
Did you know that today GA is using only 41% of their noise bucket allocation at LGB? General Aviation includes private and corporate jet aircraft as well as the small private planes.
Did you know that there is virtually no economic benefit in having international GA flights passing through our airport?
Did you know our noise ordinance could be modified or eliminated on any Tuesday by a majority vote of our Council Members?
Did you know our noise ordinance could be eliminated or modified by a ballet initiative promoted by commercial interests that want to expand the airport?
Did you know residents are the last line of defense to prevent airport expansion that could decrease the quality of life in our neighborhoods?
CONTACT YOUR LONG BEACH ELECTED OFFICIALS (DISTRICTS 1 -9 AND THE MAYOR) TO LET THEM KNOW OF YOUR CONCERNS RELATED TO OUR MUNICIPAL AIRPORT.
