To See and Be Seen.......

3/28/2016

Your appearance this week, March 30th 6-8 p.m. at the Long Beach Department of Gas & Oil  will demonstrate that Long Beach residents remain vigilant in our efforts to oversee decisions to be made for the airline requested customs facility for LGB.

The six components of this "additional" study include:
1.  Terminal enhancement facility definition.
2.  Facility planning and design.
3.  Project cost estimates.
4.  Facility demand and traffic forecasts.
5.  Financial pro forma and funding plan.
6.  Feasibility report, which includes a compilation of steps 1-5.

When I reread these six components, I see a plan being put into action.  A plan that will include a design and how to fund it.  On our behalf, Council member Austin added the following elements to be included in the study:

1.  A forecast of additional general aviation flights that include both corporate and personal jets that would utilize this FIS facility.
2.  A risk assessment of potential threats to the airport noise ordinance and a plan to mitigate impacted neighborhoods and schools from environmental and health impacts should the noise ordinance become invalidated;
3.  An assessment of potential security risks created by the addition of international flights.

How will the above community concerns be addressed?  Here is the format that will be used on Wednesday, 3/20.

The meeting will begin with a 30 minute presentation by Jacobs Engineering.  They will then convene to the Open House format and if there are any attendees left, after one hour, they will reconvene to answer the written questions received from the audience at the beginning of the meeting.

Is this a true  "Community Meeting"
?  We don't think so......

A community meeting should provide "the community" the opportunity to voice their concerns, to know they have been heard and to hear the answers to their individual questions.

To attend or not attend.......we hope you will.  We also hope you will be vocal with your concerns.  We hope you will remember this is YOUR city.

The council members who will make the final decision when this "study" returns, were elected by you, the residents of Long Beach.

Pass the word........let's do this one more time!

Stay Involved!       Your HUSH Team

The 2nd community outreach meeting will be held on April 20th.  Same time, same address: 2400 E. Spring St.

The emphasis of these meetings appear to be on passenger service and little mention of international air freight. Should we be concerned about an increase in international activity due to cargo operations?

LGB cannot differentiate between cargo and passengers. It is all about the classification of the aircraft type. So, we should be concerned about everything from general aviation that includes the private jets to commercial carriers. Should this pass the 5th district will feel the impact almost immediately with general aviation.

Rae I agree with your comment. However, there is a slew of open slots in the commuter category for air cargo under 75,000 lbs and there is the Charter option for non-scheduled revenue generating aircraft over 75,000 lbs. that only has voluntary compliance to the SENEL, International cargo activity could grow, substantially. Now, for example, Catalina Flying Boats is a cargo operator, under the 75,000 lbs category and I assume is categorized in the GA group. So, using an RJ type aircraft under the 75,000 lbs criteria, an international air cargo operator would have minimal limitations, and only be exposed to voluntary action. These are some of the questions I will have for the meetings,

Thank you. We'll be there to fight this vital quality of life issue.

I wasn't able to voice my opinion at all during the meeting last night for fear of getting mobbed by a crowd that was so blatantly under your control Rae. It's unfair that you drown everyone else out in your pursuit to make your point. Hush2 = Long Beach Neighborhoods First = BULLIES

I disagree. I don't feel bullied by LBNF. I feel more informed. Come and speak your piece at the next meeting. But then again I have lived under the LGB flight path for more than 36 years and appreciate the noise ordinance and the efforts made by many to preserve a quality of life in the neighborhoods affected by the airport.

Fear? Mobbed? Bullies? Under my control.....sorry you felt that way Charlie. I intentionally stood off to the side and watched the community speak their minds. Many of those who did speak I do not know.

I was impressed with the level of knowledge and concerns that were expressed. It is too bad that you were not comfortable stepping up to the mic to share your point of view as well.

Do you live in the neighborhoods that are airport impacted? Do you understand that the objection is not the destination that carriers or general aviation fly, it is creating another element that may be enticing to a carrier that does not have access to LGB. If you want to talk more about this, let me know.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks. I won't be returning to the next meeting Rae. You win. But you really shouldn't try to demean my opinion by assuming that I don't live in the heart of Long Beach. This wonderfully, diverse city, a city that is fortunate enough to enjoy the economic benefits and convenience as it is outlined by the 710, 405, 605 and parts of the 91 freeway and above our heads aircraft that come from Long Beach. I've been here long enough to remember your signs as a child and wonder why my parents thought you were crazy and old enough to realize that I'm turning into my parents -- thinking that you are just as crazy.

Charlie why do you think anyone would listen to someone who makes stupid personal remarks AND who is too afraid to speak up at a community meeting?
